Treatment Tips
What can you do to make the most out of your manual therapy session?
Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. Pants are preferable to skirts for privacy.
We recommend keeping your appointment even if you are sick. A sequential manual therapy session may help you recover faster.
Please drink plenty of water following a session. This allows for toxins to be flushed out of your system faster and decrease any soreness you may feel. We recommend lemon in your water, as lemon water helps flush out toxins.
The goals of manual therapy is to restore normal movement and decrease pain. With the increase in motion, you may experience some pain as tight muscles relax and blood flow to that area increases. If you experience pain and soreness, but also note increased movement, this is a positive sign that muscles are being stretched with the increased movement you have gained.
If you are experiencing pain:
Heat may help ease muscle tightness, muscle spasms, and chronic joint pain. Heat may be applied 15-20 minutes every 1-2 hours. Do not use heat if you have swelling.
If swelling is present, use ice pack 10-20 minutes every 1-2 hours.
For the first 24 hours after a session, avoid unnecessary lifting, bending, and twisting. If may be beneficial to take short walks if you are able and used to doing so.
Please be aware that if you recieved cranial treatment, you may feel tired and may need to plan to sleep a little extra.
Please give your body 2-3 days to adjust to this treatment prior to any other manual modality like massage or acupuncture.
